Frequently asked questions

What about wire diameter tolerances?
Wire diameter is specified in the result list for each spring. Tolerances are provided according to material specifications standards for wire manufacturing (Example: DIN, EN, etc.). Distortion during coiling can change the wire diameter a little.
The squareness?
Squareness is less then 3° for the most of springs in its free position.
Helix?
Compression springs are right-hand wound.
Available finishes?
Compression springs made of music wire are oiled after manufacturing to prevent corrosion. For the best results you can use zinc-coated wire (resistance in saline mist: 96 hours) or stainless steel ( for example AISI 302, resistance in saline mist: 200 hours).
What about magnetic properties?
Stainless steel is only slightly magnetic compared to music wire.
Linearity?
Cylindrical compression springs with regular intervals are maintain a linear charge between 15% and 85% of the spring's total travel. Total travel = free length - solid height.
Is it possible to overload a spring?
Extreme loads that cause compression to solid height should be avoided because there is a risk of the spring losing its mechanical characteristics over time. Example: loss of free length.
When can a spring buckle?
Buckling happens when the spring's free length is four times larger than the external diameter. This results in poor stability upon compression causing the central loops to turn on their sides.

Direction of winding?
Extension springs are right-hand wound.
Kind of hooks?
Extension springs with English hooks have both hooks closed forming a ring. Both hooks lie in the same plane. Extension springs with German hooks are produced in two versions: Hook position 0 degrees and 90 degrees. CAUTION: All extenstion springs with the length 360mm do not have hooks.
What's the difference between english and german hooks?
English hook are used in application that require closed rings at the end of the spring. On the other hand, the main advantage of german hooks is that they offer better endurance than english hooks.

Is it possible to overload a spring?
Extreme loads that cause extension to the spring's Ln (maximum length) should be avoided because there is a risk of the spring losing its mechanical characteristics over time. Example: loss of free length.

Free position of the legs?
The free leg positions of torsion springs' are of 4 types: 0, 90 ,180 or 270 degrees.
What is Torque?
Torque is the product of a force times a distance. It is measured in millimeter-Newtons. It shouldn’t be confused with Load, which is measured in Newtons. Following equation depict difference between torsion and force: M = F*Ls, where Ls (Leg Length) It is the distance from the center axis of the coil body to the end of the torsion springs' leg.
What is the Helix Direction?
A right-hand-wound spring loads in a counter-clockwise direction. A left-hand-wound spring loads in a clockwise direction. Both types are available in all sizes.
What about the ends?
Springs are end with a straight section of wire.
What is the main difference between conical compression and cylindrical compression springs?
Conical Compression springs can be used for the same applications as cylindrical compression springs. The advantage with conical springs however is that the block length is very small.
Is the pitch constant?
No, in all Vanel's conical springs, the pitch is variable but the spring rate is constant.
What kind of industrial springs can I buy in Vanel Company E-store ?
compression springs, extension springs, torsion springs, conical springs. We offer special springs as well. We will produce them on your special order, in case of lack of the wanted spring type in our catalog.
I do not have user account. Can I order springs ?
No, being not logged in you can only search industrial springs in our catalogue, but it is impossible to add any spring to the shopping basket.
I would like to ask if all fields in registration form ought to be filled ?
No, following fields may be left empty: “Contact person", “Fax", “Web page"and “Address 2".
Will I be able to change my personal data in the future ?
Of course, being logged you can edit your personal data and change them at any time.
How can I find the model of industrial spring I am interested in ?
Generally there are two ways of searching springs. Firstly, you can choose the kind of springs you are interested in, either in the left-hand menu or at the site with springs pictures. You will be automatically moved to the site with detailed information about technical parameters of industrial springs. On the same page you will find two buttons which can be used to the simple and advanced search. Second way to find the proper type of spring is to put the reference number either to the special field under the left-hand menu or at the search site.
What is the difference between simple and advanced search ?
Generally speaking, the main difference is the number of parameters you have to define in order to find the springs model you are looking for. Simple search concentrates on the most important parameters of springs, it is very quick way of searching, but you have to remember that advanced search gives you more precise results.
Should all searching fields be filled ?
No, but you ought to remember that the more parameters you define the more precise results you will receive.
Why do you call your search system “most modern and unusually simple" ?
The biggest advantage of our search system is unusual simplicity and intuitive using. On the other hand the system is very efficient and quick in finding the type of spring you are looking for. Moreover we have prepared especially for you special “Help" option. It is the simulation describing step by step how to use our search system in order to find proper spring as fast as possible.
How can I order more springs of the same type ?
You have to define the quantity of springs in the “Quantity" field in the shopping basket. You have to remember that you can not order more springs of the same type than it is defined in the “On stock" field. When you define the new quantity of springs, please click the “Update amounts of articles" button.
I have added the spring to the basket and I would like to do some further shopping. How can I do that?
There are two possibilities. You can either use the standard menu on the left-hand side of the site or you can click the “Come back to the shopping" in the basket.
I would like to ask if it is possible to add many different types of industrial springs to the one baske ?
Of course. You can have all available springs in one shopping basket, that is: compression springs, extension springs, torsion springs and conical springs, in different quantity and configuration.
I have found some interesting models of industrial springs but I had to finish my session without ordering them. Will I have to look for them next time again ?
No, but please remember to save your shopping basket. It will be available with all its content at any time in the future after logging in to your account. To save your basket please put its name in the proper place and click the “Save" button. Moreover you can save many shopping baskets with different springs configuration in each of them.
I have not found the type of spring I look for. Can you help me ?
